Arsenal legend Marc Overmars believes his former club should reconsider signing the Chilean winger.
Sanchez scored in Manchester United’s FA Cup win over The Gunners and celebrated provocatively in front of the Arsenal fans. Surely, this act would have burned bridges between Sanchez and his former club but Overmars believes that the club need that quality of player at the club.
Sanchez left Arsenal for Manchester United in January 2018 as part of a swap deal for Henrikh Mkhitaryan. The signing Sanchez for The Red Devil’s has proven to be a flop. Sanchez regularly doesn’t make the starting 11, both under former manager Joes Mourinho and now under new boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer.
The Chilean has only managed to find the net once this season. During his time at Arsenal the forward managed to score 80 goals in 166 games for Arsenal and was one of the Premier League’s best players.
Marc Overmars the Director of Football at Ajax said to ADN Deportes:
“I have great respect for Alexis, because he did extremely well in Arsenal, I do not know if it was a good decision to leave.
“English football changes you, it turns you around, it took me a step forward.
“Arsene Wenger arrived a year before me, Dennis Bergkamp made a big impression in England, it was a fantastic time, I think we changed the history of the club a bit.
“This type of players were very important for Arsenal, because that’s where they take you to focus, after Alexis, Arsenal tried to sign another player like that, but he was not given, so he could go back to Arsenal.”
If Overmars joined Arsenal could he be interested in bringing Alexis Sanchez back to The Emirates Stadium? Would you be happy with him returning?
