Despite not having much in the way of transfer funds available this coming summer, it seems as if the papers are chomping at the bit to spend what little money we have before the transfer window’s even opened.
So far the Gunners have been linked with a plethora of end-of-season moves, following a disastrous January window in which no permanent signings could be made.
And the Gunners will apparently have competition for their latest target, with Spurs also heavily interested.
The target in question is Real Betis defender Aissa Mandi.
Mandi, 27, has enjoyed an impressive season at the Benito Villamarin Stadium and has been on the Gunners radar for a while, with Arsene Wenger exploring an option to buy the Algerian right-back four years ago when he was still at Reims.
The Algeria international can also operate as a centre-half, which is perhaps why he has caught the attention of Mauricio Pochettino, who is looking to bolster his defence due to Toby Alderweireld’s expected departure at the end of the current campaign.
Mandi is under contract with Betis until 2021, but has a £26 million release clause which could trigger Unai Emery into making a move for his signature at the end of the season.
