Monchi Approves First Summer Signing

He may not be arriving at the Emirates stadium until the summer, but Monchi is already mapping out transfer moves for the 2019/2020 campaign.

The former Sevilla and current Roma transfer guru is expected to join the Gunners as technical director in June, but doesn’t want to be arriving empty handed and has already begun identifying the players who can transform Unai Emery’s team from also rans into genuine title contenders.

And, while the former Sevilla man may have limited funds to contend with (several reports are claiming the Gunners will only be afforded £45 million for new transfers) he is still working his magic to produce the goods ahead of his arrival.

Monchi will also be allowed to boost his transfer war chest with any funds raised from player sales, with Danny Welbeck, Mohamed Elneny, Shkodran Mustafi and Mesut Ozil all linked with the Emirates exit door, this summer.

And it is expected that a substantial portion of that money could be spent on Lille winger Nicolas Pepe.

The young Ivorian was actually scouted by former technical director Sven Mislintat but Monchi has approved a move for the 23-year-old after Mislintat’s departure.

Competition is expected to be fierce for Pepe’s signature however, with Manchester United, Bayern Munich, Barcelona and PSG all vying to add the winger to the right side of their attacks.

However, given Monchi’s track record, Arsenal management are confident their man can convince Pepe to move to North London at the end of the season.

Pepe has enjoyed an outstanding season with Lille this term, scoring 16 goals and registering 10 assists. It is believed his transfer fee could be as high as £69 million, meaning a few players will be heading for the exit door should he arrive at the Emirates.
