Emery Comments On Ozil’s Chances Of Starting Against Spurs

It was an inevitability that questions about Mesut Ozil would arise after the German playmaker turned in a virtuoso display against Bournemouth last night.

Arsenal’s number 10 has been continuously linked with a move away from the club over the last few months, having been sidelined by Unai Emery for the majority of games. However, with the World Cup winner turning on the style during last night’s emphatic 5-1 win over the Cherries, Ozil has given Emery a selection headache ahead of this Saturday’s titanic clash against Spurs at Wembley.

1Ozil opened the scoring against Bournemouth last night in the opening minutes…

Obviously wanting to make the most of his opportunity, the former Werder Bremen man was quick to get himself on the scoresheet.

2And a trademark assist followed soon after…

Because it just wouldn’t be a Mesut Ozil display without an assist, would it? The 30-year-old laid on Henrik Mkhitaryan to double Arsenal’s lead against Eddie Howe’s men.

3And his pass completion stats were no joke, either…

Clearly Ozil felt like he had something to prove to Emery, who has reportedly decided on an attempt to force the German out of the club by keeping him benched or out of match day squads altogether between now and the end of the season.

4The German playmaker’s display had fans purring after the game…

You can’t argue with those percentages, can you?

5Claude had some very strong feelings towards Emery’s Saturday’s selection…

Maybe a bit much, Claude, but still, a sign of Ozil’s endearing popularity among the Emirates faithful and a performance that leaves Emery with a real selection headache.

6And, when asked about whether Ozil will start in the North London Derby, this weekend, the Gunners gaffer had this to say…

Very non-committal from the boss. But surely it’s worth giving Ozil the chance to shine in such a big game when he’s clearly out to prove himself as a key player to the team?
