It was reported yesterday that Denis Suarez’s loan move from Barcelona would not be made permanent at the end of the season. And while, let’s face it, that does actually seem pretty likely, the Spanish midfielder seems to be thinking otherwise.
The 25-year-old has only made six substitute appearances since arriving in January amid rumours that Unai Emery fears that he isn’t strong enough to cope with the physicality of the Premier League, according to talkSPORT.
With the rumours swirling around, Suarez took to his instagram story to put them to bed. At least for now.
The picture, taken during a recent training session, was captioned with the line “let them keep talking.”
However, despite Suarez’s optimism, his inability to nail down a regular starting berth in Unai Emery’s first XI over the past two months hardly bodes well for a future in North London beyond the end of May.
Suarez played under Emery at Sevilla, which casts even more doubt over a permanent move, given that the pair had an existing relationship before Suarez’s move to the Emirates but still hasn’t been able to convince Emery enough to start him in a single game so far.
Who knows? But with eight Premier League games left to play and a huge Europa League quarter-final against Napoli on the horizon, Suarez could yet have a good few chances to force Emery’s hand and make the £20 million move a reality.
