Arsenal Set To Offload Two First Team Stars This Summer

In news that will come as little surprise to many Gunners fans, there are likely to be several outgoings this summer.

The likes of Danny Welbeck and Mohamed Elneny are widely expected to leave the club at the end of the season, but further sales or releases are predicted as the Arsenal board look to slash the club’s bulging wage bill in order to free up funds to bring some fresh faces aboard.

Currently, Unai Emery is expected to have a relatively low £45 million to play with during the summer window, although Champions League qualification could swell that significantly to somewhere in the region of £100 million+.

Also, the sales of high earners will boost Emery’s transfer kitty further, which brings us to the two players who could be shown the exit door ahead of the 2019/2020 campaign.

Mesut Özil and his £350,000-a-week wages are believed to be the first major casualty, despite the German play maker enjoying strong support from Arsenal fans in general.

The World Cup winner has struggled to establish himself in Emery’s plans this season, having been left on the bench for a lot of crucial games and, in some cases, out of the match day squad altogether.

Given that he is on a club record wage and not a guaranteed starter, Ozil’s exit would make a lot of sense and reports have claimed in the past few months that Emery is attempting to force the former Real Madrid man out of the club in order to bring new recruits in.

Second on the hit list is Henrikh Mkhitaryan, according to the Mirrorwho arrived at the Emirates last January as part of the deal that took Alexis Sanchez to Manchester United.

Due to the lack of a transfer fee, it is believed the Armenian attacker was given a substantial wage packet which, considering he isn’t a regular starter and has struggled with injuries since arriving in North London, makes him a prime choice for the chop in summer.

How would you feel if Ozil and Mkhitaryan were to depart at the end of the season? Would you prefer to see them stay or are you happy to see them leave?

Sound off in the comments.
