It looks as if Unai Emery has started his summer spending a few months early, with Arsenal reaching a verbal agreement with Brazilian club Ituano for the signing of their 17-year-old forward Gabriel Martinelli.
The teenager, who had a trial with Manchester United in 2017, is expected to join the Gunners in a £5 million deal, according to Yahoo Esportes, after enjoying a host of interest from many of Europe’s biggest clubs.

All that is currently holding up the deal is Martinelli waiting on his Italian passport, which is due to arrive within the next four weeks.

Martinelli has already scored 10 goals in 31 appearances for Ituano, which has drawn interest from the likes of Barcelona, this season.
However, it appears as though Arsenal have acted fasted in securing the teenager’s signature and he will complete his move to the Emirates within the next month.
Arsenal have finalised a deal to bring Gabriel Martinelli to Arsenal. Arsenal will make announcement once the player obtains his Italian passport which is expected to be within 4 weeks. [@jorgenicola]

Of course, while Martinelli is unlikely to become a first team regular any time soon, it’s encouraging to see the club continuing to build for the future and also being able to compete with Europe’s other heavyweights for the world’s most exciting prospects.
