Bernardo Silva explains what Martin Odegaard said to him after shocking kick

Football is a funny old game, and by “funny”, we usually mean “completely unhinged”. If you needed any further proof that international break fever turns players and fans alike into drama queens, look no further than the latest episode of football chaos.

During Portugal’s 2-1 win over Norway, our very own Martin Ødegaard was the recipient of a cheeky kick from Bernardo Silva. Naturally, the football world lost its collective mind, and Arsenal supporters are ready to riot.

With Erling Haaland scoring for the home side and Portugal topping Group D, the real headline was all about the drama in Oslo.

Mikel Arteta is currently chewing his fingernails down to the bone, hoping his captain isn’t broken.

Silva, meanwhile, has managed to infuriate the entire Emirates fanbase all over again with his attitude. So, let’s dive into the pettiness of it all and see what went down.

A sneaky kick and a shrug worthy of a villain

Picture the scene: the clock is winding down in Oslo, and Portugal send Bernardo Silva on as their fifth and final sub in the 87th minute, withdrawing Pedro Neto.

With barely any time on the pitch, Silva manages to sneak in a deliciously petty kick to the back of Ødegaard’s legs after the Arsenal captain has already released the ball. Naturally, a fuming Ødegaard hit the deck in pain, earning Silva a yellow card and sending Arteta straight into a cold sweat.

When a reporter later shoved a microphone in Silva’s face to ask what a furious Ødegaard had said to him post-match, the Portuguese playmaker offered up the ultimate infuriating shrug as he strolled out of the building.

“What did Ødegaard say to you after the tackle? Odegaard was upset with the tackle,” a reporter asked the Portugal star.

Silva, without stopping, said as he left the building, “It’s football, my friend.” Groundbreaking analysis, truly. Silva and Ødegaard are set to lock horns again this Sunday, and quite frankly, we are here for the absolute chaos of it all.

Arteta’s worst nightmare and the title race blues

While Silva swans off thinking he’s the main character, the entire Emirates faithful are currently performing breathing exercises.

Ødegaard was spotted walking gingerly outside the stadium late on Sunday evening, and with Norway facing Wales before the reverse fixture against Portugal, Arteta will be praying his midfield maestro returns to London Colney in one piece.

At this stage, it’s unclear whether Ødegaard will feature against Wales, but Arteta will be hoping his captain is 100 percent fit for Arsenal’s first Premier League clash after the international break against Leeds United on October 10.

The Gunners suffered a shock 3-0 defeat to Brighton before the three-week interval and will be desperate to get back to winning ways at the Emirates Stadium.

They need the points to remain within touching distance of Manchester City, who have won all five of their opening fixtures, though they now face an uncertain future after being reportedly found guilty of 114 Premier League charges.

So, here’s hoping Ødegaard gives Silva a taste of his own medicine this weekend. After all, as Bernardo likes to say, it’s football, my friend, and Arsenal fans always keep receipts.
