Arsenal legend Patrick Vieira knows a generational talent when he sees one.
The French icon, who lifted the Premier League and captained the Gunners through their golden era, has hailed Desire Doue as “the best young player in Europe” — a player Arsenal were desperate to sign just over a year ago.

Speaking to Foot Mercato, Vieira couldn’t hide his admiration for the young Frenchman:
“Desire Doue is the best young player in Europe. Not only did he score in the Champions League final, but he showed all his talent and maturity.
He went through difficult times, but he worked hard and never gave up. Lamine Yamal can’t be nominated this year, so I think Doue will win the Golden Boy award.
He’s the perfect example of a player who learns, makes mistakes, and grows. I think he’s the best of the best in the world.”
That’s high praise coming from a man who knows what it takes to dominate at the elite level.
Doue’s Rise Could Break Arsenal Hearts
As much as Arsenal fans admire the brilliance of Doue, there’s a bittersweet twist to the story.
The PSG star has been nominated for the 2025 Golden Boy Award, competing directly with Arsenal duo Ethan Nwaneri and Myles Lewis-Skelly — two players leading Arsenal’s new youth revolution.
Both youngsters have been sensational under Arteta and have put Arsenal back among Europe’s elite in youth development.
But if Vieira’s prediction comes true, it’ll be Doue — the player Arsenal couldn’t get — lifting the prestigious award ahead of them.

Desire Doue looks like the real deal, and he’s exactly the kind of player who fits Arteta’s project: young, fearless, and technically gifted.
