Alan Shearer issues Premier League title warning to Arsenal after being “well beaten” by Brighton

Alan Shearer believes Arsenal will risk winning the Premier League title if they repeat their embarrassing performance they put in against Brighton.

Before losing away at Brighton, Arsenal had won all of their matches, but the Gunners’ 100 per cent record was soon lost.

In the opening half Arsenal found themselves 2-0 down, after conceding goals from Pascal Gross and Charalampos Kostoulas.

All hope of a potential comeback was lost when Brighton scored their third goal in the 57th minute. Chema Andres scored from a corner, leaving Arsenal frustrated and beaten.

Speaking on Match of the Day, Alan Shearer has his say on what could cause problems for Arsenal’s title ambitions…

Speaking on Match of the Day and relayed by Metro, Shearer said: “They’ve been beaten, they’ve been well beaten.

“It could have been six or seven and this was frustration from Declan Rice,” Shearer said speaking on Rice’s kick on Yalcouye.

“Yalcouye gives him a little nudge there and I do think the referee gets that right. He gives him a yellow card.

“I don’t think it was too aggressive, he didn’t lash out at him, therefore I think the referee got that right, but it sort of summed Arsenal’s day up.”

While making it clear Arsenal shouldn’t “panic”, Shearer claimed that Arteta’s squad could seriously regret any repeats of their performance if they want to retain the Premier League title.

Arsenal’s problem could have been avoided

Although Arsenal conceded three goals, the focus should be towards the consistently poor form of the forward players.

With inconsistent performances from Bukayo Saka, Kai Havertz and many more of the attacking players, opposition teams gain confidence from knowing that if they press Arsenal, they can afford to let a counterattack happen because the forward line is not performing well enough to make the most of it.

This issue could have been easily avoided if Arsenal had a better transfer window. For the last three or four transfer windows, Arsenal have neglected any opportunity to improve the attack. Now, after letting both Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard leave, Mikel Arteta’s forward options are even weaker.

A solution to this issue would be making a statement signing in the January transfer window. A player like Eli Junior Kroupi could be available and would be an immediate upgrade on what Arsenal have at the moment.
