It’s transfer deadline day, and Arsenal have only hours left to sign players before the transfer window shuts at 23:00 BST.
It is expected to be a busy deadline day for Arsenal as the club oversees several major departures, as well as looking to poach any opportunities to improve their attacking options.
The Gunners have worked hard throughout the summer to ensure a successful defence of their Premier League title this season, with the additions of Christos Tzolis, Bruno Guimaraes, Ezri Konsa, and Illan Meslier.
Although Mikel Arteta has signalled his intention of taking advantage of all opportunities in the final hours of the window, saying: “We are trying to improve the squad and we are going to do that until tomorrow night.”
Potential deadline day signings
Arsenal’s attack has been an area of intense discussion this summer, with a large number of names being linked with joining Christos Tzolis in the list of forward-line additions.
The most likely move on transfer deadline day is Lyon’s Malick Fofana as Arsenal enter serious discussions over a move for the winger.
The player is reportedly keen on the move, but Arsenal and Lyon still need to discuss the price tag, with issues being raised over the €40 million fee being demanded.
Julian Alvarez has also been a name seriously admired by Arsenal, and it appears the club will be willing to make a significant offer to Atletico Madrid if an opportunity were to open up.
However, the main stumbling block as of now is that Alvarez has his heart set on a move to Barcelona, ideally now but perhaps also in the future, and has shown no interest at all in moving to the Emirates despite the efforts of Arsenal.
Potential deadline day sales
Borussia Dortmund have today managed to reach an agreement with Arsenal to sign Ethan Nwaneri on a season long loan to replace the injured Giannis Konstantelias.
The German club will cover his entire salary and is deemed the correct place for Nwaneri to gain regular minutes.
Gabriel Jesus landed in Spain yesterday to complete his move to Barcelona worth €10m plus €4m add-ons and a 20% sell-on clause, according to Fabrizio Romano. The deal is expected to be formalised and announced today.
Gabriel Martinelli is also on the verge of completing a move to Al Hilal, a deal which will go down as Arsenal’s biggest transfer fee ever received of around €70m, with an announcement now imminent.
