Fabrizio Romano drops the ‘here we go’: Arsenal’s 2027 future is already flying in this week

Fresh off the kind of domestic dominance that saw Arsenal deservedly crowned Premier League champions last season, Mikel Arteta’s recruitment team is apparently already looking past the present and straight into 2027.

The transfer window might be closed, but at the Emirates, the rumour mill never actually takes a breath; it just puts on a slightly more pretentious outfit.

Because nothing says “we are utterly obsessed with elite planning” quite like securing a teenager who legally isn’t even allowed to sign his professional terms full-time, yet even losing the Champions League final last year still stings just a little bit.

Transfer oracle Fabrizio Romano has done his usual trick of dropping the magic phrase, sending the online fanbase into an absolute tailspin over 17-year-old Georgian prospect Andria Bartishvili.

While the club worked hard in the summer to bring in Bruno Guimaraes, Ezri Konsa, Piero Hincapie, and Christos Tzolis, head coach Mikel Arteta and Co. will certainly be frustrated not to have landed a new top-level winger after missing out on Morgan Rogers, Vinicius Junior, and Bradley Barcola.

With Leandro Trossard, Gabriel Martinelli, and Ethan Nwaneri all having left the club, the Gunners are currently left slightly short of attacking options heading into January, making this future-proofing all the more fascinating.

The €4.5m blueprint and the London flight path

According to the holy gospel of Romano on X, the deal is practically sealed. Romano told his followers: ‘Arsenal agree to deal to sign 17-year-old Georgian talent Andria Bartishvili, here we go! The 17-year-old midfielder has a medical booked in London at #AFC next week and is then signing a five-year contract. He’s joining in 2027 when turning 18. Deal worth €4.5m. @Geo__team.’

Now, Romano has shared that the teenager is officially on his way to London with a view to completing his move, noting that a deal will be signed this week. Romano updated: ‘Andria Bartishvili is on his way to London, as he’s signing for Arsenal this week. Deal agreed last week for 17-year-old Georgian talent joining #AFC from June 2027, when he’ll be 18.’

It’s a long-term play, sure, but it also highlights how deeply the board is mapping out the squad. While the January window might see the Gunners look to address their current attacking shortages with the signing of a winger and/or striker to make an immediate impact, tying down elite prospects early, like Bartishvili, shows they are keeping one eye firmly on tomorrow.

Bartishvili gets to finish developing before stepping into the North London pressure cooker as an 18-year-old in 2027. Efficient? Absolutely.

Dreaming of Alvarez and appreciating the new spark

Of course, looking at teenagers doesn’t stop legends from daydreaming about earth-shattering, wallet-busting marquee arrivals. Atletico Madrid striker Julian Alvarez has been mooted as a dream target, and club legend Emmanuel Petit thinks he would be “perfect” for Arsenal.

Petit told Oddschecker, “He’s a beautiful player with great movement and intelligence. He’s got speed, technique, and vision. He can score many goals and provide assists. It’s hard sometimes to get intelligent players who understand the DNA of the team. Arsenal has a proper DNA on the pitch. I think Alvarez would be perfect for Arsenal.”

In the meantime, attention remains locked on how the current fresh faces integrate, with Petit drawing some rather spicy comparisons regarding new boy Christos Tzolis.

On the new signing, Petit added: “He has quality, tactical intelligence, movement, technique, and the way he runs with the ball. He reminds me sometimes of Kvaratskhelia with Paris Saint-Germain, the way he runs with the ball and tries to unbalance his opponent. When he gets past his opponent and crosses the ball, he knows exactly where he wants to put it.”

If the club can balance immediate January fixes with clever future acquisitions like Bartishvili, Mikel Arteta’s side is going to remain a terrifying machine for a very long time.
