Leny Yoro: Arsenal emerge as surprise suitors for “unsettled” Man Utd star

Arsenal have been linked with a shock move for Manchester United defender Leny Yoro, with CaughtOffside reporting the 20-year old is “unsettled” at Old Trafford amidst a lack of minutes under Michael Carrick. 

Yoro was one of Europe’s most coveted defenders when United managed to fend of Real Madrid to secure his signature in 2024 for an initial £52 million. He had made 60 appearances for Lille before his 19^th birthday and arrived at Old Trafford as a player of genuinely elite potential. 

Two years on however, the picture looks a little different. Injuries and competition for places have limited his first-team minutes severely, and the 20 year old has only featured in 22 minutes of Premier League football this season. Michael Carrick has consistently preferred a pairing of Lisandro Martinez and Harry Maguire snubbing the young heads of Yoro and Ayden Heaven. He has made 70 appearances across all competitions for United since signing but never a consistent run of form that would warrant a guaranteed name on the team sheet. 

CaughtOffside quoted a source saying “Leny Yoro is concerned about his role, there’ll be talks soon to clarify the situation, but clubs have taken this as a clear message that he’s ready to consider offers,” the source said. “PSG have the strongest interest, and that dates back to Yoro’s time in France. But from within the Premier League, Arsenal could also be a serious option to watch.”

Real Madrid who challenged United for his signature back in 2024 have reportedly cooled interest whilst Chelsea, Barcelona, AC Milan, all described as long-term admirers, remain in the frame. These names do give United a degree of selling power should they wish to part ways. 

Arsenal’s interest in Yoro

Arsenal have registered interest in Yoro, and the added bonus of potentially stripping a rival of one of their most promising assets is also a draw. Despite their interest Mikel Arteta already possesses the best defence in the league comprising of the best defenders, adding Yoro to that group does little to increase his playing time.

A more likely outcome is a move to PSG as the French giants often rotate between league and Champions League offering plenty of opportunities. Secondly, Yoro understands the league and its demands allowing for a smooth transition to the French capital. 

What next?

TEAMtalk exclusively revealed earlier this month that Yoro could be on the chopping block next summer if he fails to show improvement. Despite his elite potential INEOS are attempting a rebuild and Yoro offers a player holding real market value.

United and Arsenal have been linked to Como’s Jacobo Ramon, once of Real Madrid, as a potential signing in 2027, a development which does further complicate Yoro’s future at United, however it can be said for all United’s defenders that no one is indispensable. 

With the summer singing of Ezri Konsa and with the current depth of Arsenal’s defence a move for Ramon seems unlikely when Arteta has other areas of greater importance to address, namely the forward ranks.
