Myles Lewis-Skelly’s future in North London appears increasingly uncertain, amid growing interest from Manchester United.
Arsenal’s promising Hale End duo, Ethan Nwaneri and Myles Lewis-Skelly, have endured a difficult second season as part of Arsenal’s first team.
Both teenage talents experienced impressive breakout seasons during the 2024-25 campaign, showcasing their abundant talent in both the Premier League and Champions League. However, a year on, their meteoric rise has slowed somewhat.
Nwaneri, now on loan at Marseille, found himself slipping down the pecking order following the arrivals of Eberechi Eze and Noni Madueke last summer.
Similarly, Lewis-Skelly’s recent opportunities have been few and far between. The youngster has had to contend with fierce competition from both Riccardo Calafiori and Piero Hincapié for a spot at left-back.
Lewis-Skelly open to exit after difficult spell
According to TeamTalk, Manchester United are eyeing up a summer move for Myles Lewis-Skelly as they look to revamp their left-back department.
The Arsenal left-back is reportedly now open to a move away from the Emirates in search of regular football.
The feeling around his future appears mutual, with Arsenal also prepared to cash in as they look to prioritise sales this summer, with a potential deal representing pure profit on a homegrown asset.
The news arrives as the 19-year-old misses out on Thomas Tuchel’s latest England squad, with his chances of securing a place at this summer’s World Cup becoming increasingly slim.
Arsenal fans will certainly be dismayed at the prospect of a prominent Hale End product joining their Premier League rivals. A loan move may benefit Lewis-Skelly’s development and enable him to continue his Arsenal journey, though a compelling offer may tie the hands of Arsenal’s hierarchy.
Beyond Manchester United, other clubs are also circling, with Everton and Brentford keeping a close eye on the teenager.
Carabao Cup final loss highlights glaring issue in Arsenal’s style
The disappointment of Sunday’s cup final loss will reverberate for some time at the club, though Mikel Arteta will have ample time to contemplate the Gunners’ next steps. As the international break looms, many first-team players will be thrust straight back into action.
Losing Eberechi Eze and Jurrien Timber before the game was a significant blow for the Gunners, with both players joining Martin Ødegaard and Mikel Merino on the sidelines.
The absence of their quality was glaringly obvious, with the Gunners unable to progress the ball for large swathes of the match.
Despite Manchester City coming out on top with a dominant performance, a lack of creativity, guile and penetration hindered Arsenal’s resistance. Martin Zubimendi ultimately failed to show the positional ingenuity and accountability that many Arsenal fans expect of a sitting midfielder.
In contrast, Riccardo Calafiori’s impressive cameo and attacking intent underlined the importance of risk-taking, particularly in such a high-stakes game.
Though currently out of favour, Myles Lewis-Skelly has demonstrated similar intent when on the field this season, with moments of brilliance such as his lung-busting run against Atletico showing why he rose to the fore in the first place.
