Martin Zubimendi opens up on “not ideal” Arsenal problem caused by Mikel Arteta

Martin Zubimendi has spoken about his lack of minutes during the start of the season for both Arsenal and when he represents Spain at international level.

The 27-year-old Spanish midfielder has been consistently selected in Luis de La Fuente’s squads but does not always get the game time he wishes.

Last season for Arsenal, the midfielder started the campaign very impressively. He played almost every game for Mikel Arteta and was performing at a very high level.

However, during the remaining few league games and the Champions League final last season, Zubimendi found himself starting the games on the bench.

After spending Spain’s recent win over England on the bench, Zubimendi has spoken on his current situation…

Zubimendi speaks on his situation

Although the Spanish international has not received as many minutes as he would have hoped for, he knows that he still has a lot of opportunities to get back to regular playing time.

Speaking in an interview with RTVE and relayed by Sport Witness, Zubimendi said: “Obviously, it’s not ideal. We all like to be key players, everyone has a bit of an ego and wants to play.

“I’m not naive, I understand the context I’m in. I’m with the best national team in the world, with the best defensive midfielder in the world ahead of me,” he added.

Zubimendi is attracting attention from other clubs

Even though he is not looking to leave Arsenal, there are a variety of clubs that could be interested in a potential deal for the midfielder.

Reports in the Spanish media have suggested that Real Madrid are keen on Zubimendi, as they have been for a number of years now. With the European giants missing out on signing Rodri, Zubimendi would be a more than suitable second option.

A move to Real Madrid could suit the Spaniard, considering it took a lot of convincing for him to leave Spain and play in England. But it is unlikely that Arsenal would listen to any offers, given that the club have aims of winning as many trophies as they can.

However, Zubimendi still has a very important role at Arsenal. Mikel Arteta has spoken about how important he is to him, and it will be evident when the Gunners have a much busier schedule.
