Arsenal’s Swedish centre forward Viktor Gyokeres enjoyed a decent debut season in red and white netting 21 goals in all competitions and helping to secure a Premier league title for his club.
However seven games into the new season he is yet to get off the mark and has only made one start in all competition, that came in the league cup away to Ipswich. And it seems the international break has come at the right time for him giving him a reset that he needed.
For Sweden, he has had no such issues, netting two goals in two games for his country against Romania and Poland, with his overall second-half performance against the latter catching the eye. And with Kai Havertz a potential injury doubt when club football returns, it could be positive for Mikel Arteta’s team.
Gyokeres ‘tore’ Polish defense apart
According to ArsenalNews, Swedish media noted that Gyokeres took a while to turn up, enduring a quiet first half before stepping up in an eye catching second half display in which he ‘tore Poland apart with constant runs’ before getting himself a deserved goal which sealed Graham Potters side a 3-1 victory.
The Arsenal man seems to be making a habit of tormenting Poland, also netting the third goal in a victory just 7 months ago in a World Cup qualifier to seal his sides place in the World Cup.
Gyokeres sends Arteta message after Havertz suffers injury scare
Kai Havertz has been Mikel Arteta’s first choice centre forward in the first phase of the season, with Gyokeres finding game time hard to come by, so his return to form over the international break perhaps sends a message to his club manager.
Arsenal have been accused of not playing to Gyokeres’ strength. Sweden on the other hand most definitely do, and his record for his country speaks for himself. And it sends a message to his club manager, adapt to Gyokeres and you will get a tune out of him.
Kai Havertz has returned to London following an injury scare for his side Germany and if its serious Gyokeres could be set to start when Leeds come to the Emirates, and in line for a run of starts. And when he does, if Arsenal adapt to him and his strengths, there is no doubt he can return to his best and tear Premier League defences apart.
