Mikel Arteta handed Jorginho his first Premier League start since November in Arsenal’s 3-1 win over Liverpool on Sunday. The Italian midfielder earned player-of-the-match and played a crucial role in helping the Gunners defeat the Premier League leaders at the Emirates Stadium.
The midfielder saw plenty of action in yesterday’s win, completing more passes (45) than any other Arsenal player. During this match, Jorginho also had the most touches (70) and made the most interceptions (4) out of any player on the pitch.
Describing the win as “a special day”, Jorginho told the media: “The supporters, they were behind us and we could feel it and it was just an amazing day for us”.
“We knew we had to push the limit to beat them because they are a great team and that’s what we did and I think we deserved the win”.
After constantly encouraging the Arsenal crowd throughout the match, the Italian continued to praise the supporters in a post-match interview and told the fans to “enjoy” the victory, describing the game as memorable.
