Now that the summer transfer window has closed, Arsenal have made five new signings as well as multiple outgoings as they aim to retain the Premier League title.
Arsenal started the transfer window by signing Piero Hincapie on a permanent deal, after a very successful season winning the Premier League title on loan.
Then Arsenal stayed with the defence and signed Illan Meslier from Leeds, who was brought in as a reserve goalkeeper, which allowed Tommy Setford to go out on loan.
Arsenal’s third signing was Christos Tzolis, who was signed from Club Brugge. The Greek international quickly earned praise from Arsenal fans after an impressive start to the season.
After a long and frustrating saga, Arsenal finally signed Bruno Guimaraes from Newcastle United. Having been one of the best midfielders in the Premier League for consecutive seasons, this signing helps the Gunners massively.
The final signing of the window was Ezri Konsa, who was signed from Aston Villa. With injuries to William Saliba and Jurrien Timber, Konsa was brought in to provide excellent cover.
Here are the ratings for the each of the signings…
Summer signings ranked
Piero Hincapie – 8
Piero Hincapie joined Arsenal last season on a loan deal from Bayer Leverkusen and proved to be an excellent signing. He was consistently playing when Riccardo Calafiori was injured and he played in a variety of positions across the defence.
Arsenal then paid a permanent transfer fee of £34.5 million plus add-ons to sign the Ecuadorian and will be a key part to the Gunners’ success this season.
Illan Meslier – 5
Illan Meslier was signed on a free transfer from Leeds and was brought in to be the third-choice goalkeeper. It is unlikely he will play many games for Arsenal this season, but he looked impressive in pre-season and would fill in well when needed.
Christos Tzolis – 7.5
In a transfer window where Arsenal fans were hoping for an attacker to take the club to a higher level, Tzolis was signed as a replacement for Leandro Trossard. However, after an exciting start, Arsenal may have signed a player that could develop into an attacker that helps the team win big trophies.
Tzolis has already impressed with his performance in the Community Shield against Manchester City and the opening game of the season against Coventry.
Bruno Guimaraes – 9
Potentially signing of the summer, Bruno Guimaraes brings so much to Mikel Arteta’s squad. His ability to create chances, break the lines and score goals will help Arsenal a lot. Secondly, his desire and tenacity to win the ball proves that he will be a perfect player for Mikel Arteta.
The signing of Bruno Guimaraes also allows for players such as Declan Rice, who played too many games, to be rotated more.
Ezri Konsa – 8
With injuries to both William Saliba and Jurrien Timber, Ezri Konsa was brought in to provide more depth to the defence. The signing looks even better now that Cristhian Mosquera may have picked up an injury during the game against Aston Villa.
