Arsenal’s interest in Bournemouth striker Eli Junior Kroupi is described as “very real” ahead of the January transfer window, with football.london’s Arsenal correspondent Tom Canton identifying the 20-year-old as one to watch closely when he returns from injury.
Arsenal had been linked with Kroupi throughout the summer but a move never materialized, not due to a lack of interest, but because the forward suffered a foot injury during Bournemouth’s pre-season training camp in Austria in July, ruling him out for a three to four month period.
Medical staff at Bournemouth expect him to return to full match fitness between late October and November, precisely the period when the January window begins to take shape.
Canton’s words carry significant weight given his closeness to the club. “We reported at the start of the summer that Arsenal had a genuine interest in him, and if he hadn’t suffered that injury, I would have been curious to see if Arsenal would have played a stronger card towards the end of this window, rather than waiting for the Alvarez situation to see if it would change,” he wrote. “The interest is very real.”
Kroupi scored 13 Premier League goals on his debut top-flight season last term, helping Bournemouth qualify for European football for the first time in their history. His impact was sufficient to earn him a nomination for the 2026 Ballon d’Or Men’s Young Talent of the Year award, a remarkable recognition for a player only in his first campaign in English football.
Why Kroupi is a fit
What makes Kroupi particularly interesting from Arsenal’s perspective is his unusual attacking profile. Having previously operated as an attacking midfielder, the French forward is adept at dropping deep and finding space in the half-channels rather than simply leading the line as a conventional target man.
That intelligence between the lines, creating passing lanes for Bukayo Saka and Arsenal’s wide attackers rather than engaging in physical duels with centre-backs, is precisely the type of movement Arteta values in a forward.
Kroupi would offer something different to both Kai Havertz and Viktor Gyokeres in Arsenal’s current setup.
Bournemouth set high price
Bournemouth are fully aware of their asset’s value and are expected to demand in the region of £80 million, a significant fee, but one Arsenal’s hierarchy appear convinced is justified given his potential ceiling.
Tottenham had also been encouraged by Kroupi’s representatives before his foot injury intervened, and competition for his signature will be fierce.

Canton’s assessment is clear, Arsenal have not moved on. They watched the summer window close without him, and January represents the next opportunity to revisit a deal they never truly abandoned.
