Arsenal have identified Brentford and Germany forward Kevin Schade as a “name to monitor” as the Gunners look to bolster their forward line, having failed to sign a new left winger in the summer transfer window.
The English champions have known for some time that the left side of their attack requires an upgrade, and after a turbulent summer that saw both Christos Tzolis come through the door as a replacement for the outgoing Leandro Trossard and Gabriel Martinelli, it would seem that the Arsenal hierarchy are looking domestically for another option.
Is Schade the perfect attacking winger?
The German has started the 2026/27 campaign on fire, netting three goals in the opening four games of the Premier League season.
This output has earned him a spot in Jurgen Klopp’s first Germany squad for the upcoming UEFA Nations League fixtures against the Netherlands and Greece.
The forward has continued to build on an impressive campaign last time around, during which he recorded eight goals and four assists as he helped the Bees to a ninth-place finish. It is this sort of form that will make him an attractive prospect for any club in the market for a forward in January, with Football.London stating Arsenal are a team interested.
When asked about his star man after a double at Bournemouth last weekend, Keith Andrews was not shy of praise. “He’s been excellent. The way he’s attacked everything we’ve done, regardless of where he plays, what he gets asked to do with the ball, without the ball, there’s such an honesty to his game.
“I felt like it’s been bubbling with him. The goals, you can see the goal he scored against Leeds, the confidence he’s playing with, and today the way he took those two goals again was really nice.”
In terms of Arsenal adding a new left-winger to the squad, Schade may prove the perfect choice, as his Premier League experience coupled with his explosive pace and ability to find the net makes him a fearsome opponent for any defence in the League.
Failure in the summer leaves the Gunners in need
Having sold Leandro Trossard to Besiktas and Gabriel Martinelli to Al-Hilal, many fans would have been expecting Arsenal to go big in an attempt to address the gaping hole in an already-lacking position within the squad. However, the arrival of Christos Tzolis from Club Brugge was the only incoming that would arrive at the Emirates in the forward department.
The Gunners made moves for Morgan Rogers, Vinicius Jr and Julian Alvarez over the summer window, but these pursuits ultimately led to nothing by the deadline at the start of the month.
With the English Champions looking to retain their Premier League crown, go one step further in the Champions League and Carabao Cup, and launch a serious bid for FA Cup glory, it seems clear that a new winger is a must for the Gunners in the winter transfer window. The question is: will Schade be the answer to Arsenal’s problem?
