The summer transfer window is heating up, and Bruno Guimarães has reportedly signalled he’s ready to trade Tyneside for the Emirates. Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has pulled back the curtain on the midfielder’s intentions, confirming that Guimarães has his heart set on Arsenal. Unlike the scorched-earth tactics we often see in the modern game, the Brazilian is playing it cool. As Romano explained on his YouTube show:
“My understanding is that, on the player side, Bruno Guimarães wants to go to Arsenal. Bruno Guimarães has a clear desire to join Arsenal, and personal terms would not be an issue. So Bruno wants to go to London and wants to go to Arsenal.”
Crucially, Romano added that the player is handling this with class. “Bruno Guimarães…didn’t tell Newcastle something in Alexander Isak’s story style, like, ‘Sell me, or I’m not going to stay here.’
“Bruno Guimarães wants to be respectful to Newcastle. If Newcastle can reach an agreement with Arsenal, Bruno will be happy to go to Arsenal. If this doesn’t happen, Bruno Guimarães will not create problems for Newcastle.”
The £90 million elephant in the Room
While the player is on board, the bank managers might need some convincing. Reports suggest that any serious conversation with Newcastle will start at the steep price of £90 million. Romano was clear that the two sides aren’t quite aligned just yet:
“My understanding: sources involved and close to the story say that a transfer fee of around 90 million could be the beginning of the discussion. Arsenal, from my understanding, are not offering 90 million, at least at this stage, so it has to be negotiated.
It’s a game of brinkmanship: will Newcastle lower their demands, or will Arsenal be forced to dig deeper into their pockets to land their man?
