The 2025/26 campaign for Arsenal fans and manager Mikel Arteta had been a long time in making, and was incredibly well celebrated during the summer. But here we are again with the new domestic campaign in full flow, and the hard work has already begun for our Spanish gaffer and his slightly new look match day squad.
Having finally lifted the Premier League trophy, and enjoyed an, ultimately unfortunate, run to the Champions League Final to face off against Paris Saint-Germain, an unexpected defeat to Brighton and Hove Albion has taken the shine off our return to real football this year and the best betting sites in Japan probably did not see that result coming.
Title defence hopes will remain incredibly high given the form and performance levels that we have shown so far.
Those hopes have only been boosted by the further strengthening of the playing group that we did over the summer to add additional quality, and further depth, to Arteta’s options. Whilst a defeat was not the way anyone had wanted to go into the first international break of the year, here we are, and it gives us the chance to reflect once again on the strides forward that we have made.
With the media needing to fill a three week break in real news, it also means that we can expect the full ramping up of the speculation rumour mill to fill the void, as will naturally turn to the January transfer window – the New Year will be with us sooner than we would like to think.
With eight goals scored so far in the domestic league, and only four conceded, there is one interesting link doing the rounds this week, and it concerns Borussia Dortmund’s attacking talent Maximilian Beier.
Those Gunners with long memories will remember the name as this is not the first time we have been linked with the highly rated 23 year old, ten capped German full international striker.
Current reports suggest that we are still interested in bringing in another attacking option to bolster the ranks in the New Year, and Beier has featured on the rumour mill for at least the last 12 months with claims of active scouting, and the scout reports continued for their last match.
The only real difference here seems to be in the fact that Beier is now seemingly top of our list, given the lengthy and obviously failed longer term pursuit of Atletico Madrid and Argentine international, Julian Alvarez.
The claims also lean on the fact that the Bundesliga outfit are already in our weekly update plans for the backroom staff owning to the loan of Ethan Nwaneri, as he headed in their direction over the summer.
So having fresh and regular updates on his performances (and maybe even plans?) is ow even easier this season.
Not least having a fresh working relationship between the clubs, and the benefit that this might bring slightly further down the line.
For Arteta, Beier’s versatility would also be a huge bonus, as he is more than capable of playing as a central striker, a No. 10 or even on the flanks.
It is certainly worth watching as the remainder of the year ticks by.
