Goals, grit, and good vibes: Slegers insists Arsenal’s attack is ready to explode!

Arsenal Women are currently facing an unexpected puzzle in front of goal, having netted just three times in their opening five games. Yet, manager Renée Slegers is radiating pure, unadulterated optimism ahead of tonight’s massive UEFA Women’s Champions League clash away at Paris FC.

While rival fans might raise an eyebrow at the Gunners’ early-season scoring woes, Slegers remains completely unruffled and fiercely bullish about her squad’s true potential.

Speaking to the press alongside summer signing Georgia Stanway, the boss dismissed any panic about recent personnel changes disrupting the final third. Instead, she pointed to the endless hours spent together on and off the training pitch as proof that strong connections are already firmly in place.

Confidence might naturally fluctuate in the high-stakes world of elite football, but this squad is staying grounded, united, and relentlessly solution-oriented.

As the Gunners gear up for a 5.45pm UK kickoff, broadcast live on Disney+, the message from the camp is loud and clear: once the floodgates finally open, there’ll be no stopping them.

Chemistry and confidence: Why the spark is just around the corner

Let’s be honest, scoring three goals in five matches isn’t exactly the goal-fest we’ve come to expect from our star-studded frontline. But Renée isn’t hitting any panic buttons just yet.

Dismissing the idea that a flurry of new faces has left the team disjointed, she reminded everyone that modern players live and breathe club life together six days a week.

‘It’s not like it was 20 years ago. These players spend a lot of time together,’ Slegers pointed out with a smile. ‘We spend six days a week together on the pitch and off the pitch as well, so connections are built.’

Football is undeniably a mental game, and confidence can be a fickle friend when the ball simply refuses to cross the line.

However, Slegers loves what she sees behind closed doors. ‘At the moment, it’s difficult, of course, but we all believe, and I’m really proud of the group as well, of how they’ve been these last couple of weeks,’ she shared.

‘They’re so grounded, looking forward, looking for solutions, very high belief, and very high support. We know that it will come, and we know how good we are when we’re unleashed.’

Stanway steps up: The new kid backs the boss

Joining the pre-match hype train was none other than midfield dynamo Georgia Stanway, one of eight shiny new arrivals stepping into the Arsenal fold this season.

Stanway didn’t shy away from the fact that bedding in a hoard of fresh talent takes a little time and fine-tuning, but she’s fully backing the process.

‘Of course, a lot of the work is done on the grass; it’s playing with different partners, seeing exactly how somebody likes to receive the ball or how they like to move, and getting to know people’s habits,’ Stanway explained. ‘Everything’s happened so naturally.’

Echoing her manager’s unshakable belief, Stanway highlighted the sheer amount of accountability humming through the training ground. With roughly 50 staff and players driving standards every single day, nobody is pointing fingers.

“Renee, the team, there are 50 people in and out of this building every single day, and everybody’s taking responsibility for themselves. I think that will only stand us in good stead going forward,” Stanway declared. “I’m a big believer in the fact that when it clicks, I think it will really click.”

Stanway even revealed a powerful daily mantra hanging right on the wall: ‘No matter what, I’m here to give my entire heart.’ If that kind of passion doesn’t get you hyped for tonight’s European showdown in Paris, nothing will!

Let’s get behind the girls and watch that attack finally roar back to life. COYG!
