The Gunners are reportedly keen on signing Bayern Munich midfielder Joshua Kimmich on a free transfer this summer, according to Sky in Germany. The 30-year-old German international’s contract with Bayern is set to expire in June, and he is currently in discussions over a new deal at the Allianz Arena.
While Arsenal have not officially commented on the reports, the club is understood to be exploring midfield options ahead of the upcoming transfer window. Both Thomas Partey and Jorginho are out of contract this summer, potentially leaving gaps in the midfield that Kimmich could fill.
Kimmich has been a pivotal figure for Bayern, making 36 appearances this season and 435 in his time at Munich. His versatility, availability and experience would be valuable assets to Arsenal as they aim to strengthen their squad.
Kimmich, who is widely known as a central midfielder, is equally as comfortable at right-back and has filled in both positions for Vincent Kompany this season. This will provide great coverage if Arsenal were to get the German’s signature.
Although Arsenal are understood to be finalising a deal for Martin Zubimendi from Real Sociedad, recruiting another midfielder alongside Zubimendi would really bolster midfield options. An extra world proven talent in the middle of the park would not go a miss if Arsenal want to push for the Premier League again next year further next year. As many Gunners will know, it was Kimmich’s goal that knocked Arteta’s men out of the UEFA Champions league last season as he headed home to send Arsenal out of the quarter finals.
If reports are true, it is likely that Arsenal will face competition for Kimmich’s signature. Reports indicate that Premier League rivals Liverpool and Manchester City, as well as Paris Saint-Germain, are also interested in the midfielder. Additionally, Bayern Munich has reportedly withdrawn their contract extension offer to Kimmich, adding uncertainty to his future at the club.
As the summer transfer window approaches, Arsenal fans will be eager to see how this situation develops and whether the club can secure Kimmich’s services to bolster their midfield options.
